Moving

Timeline of Events: Moving

  • Wednesday:
Grandpa and Auntie Lisa arrive in Alabama via plane, late at night.
  • Thursday:
Grandpa, Ashlee and Jared (aka Mommy and Daddy) pack, while Lisa entertains the babies.
  • Friday:
The roadtrip begins! Grandpa and Lisa take the moving truck; Jared, Ashlee and the girls take the truck (which is also moving, of course, but not called a moving truck because it is merely moving forward, not carrying a zillion pounds of belongings to your new residence). Triplets and Co. tackle the 'eight hour drive' in little under twelve hours, including various stops for meals, snacks, and potty breaks. The girls take a chaotic bath all together, eat their dinner and are asleep in their hotel-provided cribs before you can say Superfragicagilisticexpialidocious three dozen times.
  • Saturday:
Every member of Ashlee's family for miles around converges on the hotel like flies on meat to meet the little cuties! With all the flashing cameras, it is like being in the company of celebrities -- and all the stares in the breakfast room later only help confirm that impression. After breakfast the family disperses and once again, Triplets and Co. are off! One 'five hour drive' later, and the Triplets make their debut in Houston just in time for a very late lunch at the new house with Aunt Maranda and Cousin Natalie, who drove three hours to help with the move in. The Aunties and Natalie entertain the babies while the truck is unloaded by the men (including a nice guy from our new ward). Soon the girls, who have nobly suffered an exhausting trip with surprisingly little fuss, are put to bed, and then the real unpacking begins. The adults are up past midnight transforming the house from a storage unit for dozens of cardboard boxes to some semblance of a home.
  • Sunday:
Everyone is exhausted. The girls sleep an hour later than usual, and the adults eat a nutritious breakfast of donuts, bought perforce, from a nearby shop, because the cupboards literally are bare. Then the work of unpacking and entertaining resumes.
  • Monday:
Life as usual begins... somewhat. The kitchen is still being organized, a play area is constructed for the girls in the family room, shopping is done and various things are moved to their proper places. The girls are feeling a bit fussy, despite the visit from a new neighbor/old friend, so they get put to bed as soon as dinner has disappeared down their throats. What's that you say? That's when they usually go to bed? Awww, sure. Ruin it, why dontcha.

And that, my dears, is our move in a nutshell. Don't worry, I will post pictures soon. Among the items on the shopping list that were procured today, I am glad to say a new camera for me was among them (my old one broke on the plane-ride).
